5-Day New Year Retreat with Thai Monastic Meditation Masters, Luangpor Da Sammakhato, Ajahn Somchai Acaro, and Ajahn Wisoot Dhammacaro (1/15/27 - 1/19/27)

from $750.00

The Center for Mindfulness & Insight Meditation in Redding, CT and the Wenham Insight Meditation Center will team up to hold a 5-day Mahasati insight meditation retreat from 7:00 PM, Friday evening, January 15, to 1:00 PM, Tuesday, January 19. The retreat is a great way to start the new year. It will be led by a team of senior Thai monastic teachers who all practice within the tradition of Luangpor Teean Jittasubho. Luangpor Teean was a twentieth century Thai master who taught the elimination of mental and emotional suffering by cultivating awareness of the movement of the body as an anchor for the development of mindfulness of the heart and mind.

This retreat is open to all levels of practitioners and is a wonderful opportunity to deepen one’s meditation practice by allowing one to cultivate self-awareness for an extended period of time without distraction.

Teachers:

  • Luangpor Da is an ordained Thai Forest Monk who has been teaching for decades. He practiced under Thai meditation master Luangpor Teean, and is one of his senior Dhamma heirs. Luangpor Da is currently Abbott of our center in Redding, CT.

  • Ajahn Somchai is a Theravada monk who has been practicing since 1975. He now resides and teaches at the Sukato Forest Monastery and the Satipaṭṭhāna Institute in Chaiyaphum Province, Thailand. He encourages practitioners to cultivate clear awareness, understand the nature of mind and body through direct observation, and integrate mindfulness into everyday activities in a practical and accessible manner.

  • Ajahn Wisoot is also a Thai Forest Monk who resides and teaches at the Sukato Forest Monastery. He also has been practicing and teaching in the Mahasati Insight or Dynamic Mindfulness tradition of Luangpor Teean for decades.

  • Michael Bresnan will be assisting the monastic teaching team. Michael is a licensed psychologist, who has been practicing Mahasati Insight meditation for over 30 years. He is the founder of our MA and CT practice centers.

Dharma Talks and Q&A:

While the retreat will be conducted mainly in silence, there will also be Dharma talks and question and answer periods.

Private Interviews:

As is the tradition with meditation retreats, all attendees will also have a private interview period with the teachers as a further aid to their practice.

Lodging Provided:

Wisdom House provides an excellent atmosphere for meditation. It is situated on 54 acres of meadows, woods, and brooks in the beautiful northwest hills of Connecticut. Each participant will have their own private room, though most bathrooms are shared. A limited number of ensuite rooms are available for an additional cost.
